Huong Giang to Represent Vietnam at Miss Universe 2025

Making history in global pageantry, Vietnam has chosen Huong Giang to represent the country at Miss Universe 2025, set for November in Bangkok. She is the first transgender woman from Asia to compete on this stage, following her acclaimed career in entertainment and victory at Miss International Queen. Supporters see her selection as a meaningful breakthrough for representation and equality.

In a watershed moment for representation in Asia, Vietnam has named Nguyễn Huong Giang as its official delegate to the Miss Universe 2025 competition. This marks the first time a transgender woman will represent an Asian country on the Miss Universe global stage, a shift that has the pageant world buzzing.

Huong Giang, 33, is no stranger to breaking boundaries. After placing in the Top 4 of Vietnam Idol in 2012, she became a public figure in entertainment, and in 2018, she clinched the crown at Miss International Queen, the world’s preeminent pageant for transgender women.

The decision to send her to Miss Universe was made via a “special selection” by the Miss Universe Vietnam organization, which cited her unique blend of talent, resilience, and symbolic value in representing a more inclusive vision of beauty and identity.

This step is especially notable because Miss Universe only began allowing openly transgender contestants in 2012. For many countries in Asia, the decision to welcome transgender delegates remains contentious owing to social, cultural, or regulatory hurdles. In that sense, Vietnam’s decision is a meaningful push toward visibility.

Public reaction has already been broad. Many social media users are rallying behind Huong Giang’s selection, celebrating it as progress in representation and visibility. Others are expressing surprise or raising questions about tradition and national identity.

But this is not just a symbolic gesture. Huong Giang brings real credentials: singer, actress, producer, judge, and media personality. She even served as executive producer of Miss Universe Vietnam 2024, so she understands the machinery behind pageantry as well as the stage itself.

As she prepares for the Miss Universe 2025 finals, slated for November 21 in Bangkok, Thailand, with more than 130 delegates expected, she carries more than just her own hopes. She carries hope for many who see in her appointment a door cracking open.

For the trans and queer community, especially in more conservative regions, her presence at Miss Universe can serve as a powerful affirmation: that visibility matters, that identity matters, and that some spaces once deemed impossible to enter are now bending. For Vietnam, this is also a stake in global cultural conversation, a chance to show not just beauty, but evolving notions of representation, pride, and inclusion.

One question lingers: Will the Miss Universe global system and its larger viewership truly embrace and support a trans delegate from Asia? The coming weeks will be telling in judging scorecards, media narratives, and how audiences respond.

For now, Huong Giang is poised to walk new ground. And whether she lands in the top ranks or not, her very participation changes something. It forces the industry and societies to see: beauty is not confined to old definitions. Representation is not optional. And history is often made by those bold enough to step forward.
